Orthodontic Services

As a specialty practice, our services are limited to orthodontics (braces) and related care.  Dr. Thompson has completed both dental school, and orthodontics residency.  She earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree, at The Ohio State University, and earned a Certificate in Advanced Graduate Studies, at Jacksonville University in Florida, an ADA-accredited residency program, for two years of full-time orthodontic specialty studies.

We work with your dentist
Every patient is important, so we will work with your general dentist to give you the best Orthodontic care possible.  If you have complex needs we will work with you and your dentist to ensure your treatment fits your individual needs.  Thompson Orthodontics can accommodate adults and children who desire to have straighter teeth.  Dr. Thompson practiced as a General Dentist in Wilmington and Hillsboro, Ohio, for 6 years before returning to school to specialize in Orthodontics.  Thus, she understands how to move teeth in such a way that your Dentist can easily clean your teeth and place restorations if necessary.

Orthodontists are dental specialists who diagnose and treat dental irregulatities related to the position of teeth.  To become a specialist, orthodontists must complete an additional curriculum beyond dental school, to learn to align teeth.  Only specialists may become members of the AAO, the American Association of Orthodontists.

Orthodontic treatment has several components.  Some of these are:
  • Orthodontic Examination – Dr. Thompson will conduct a thorough examination and discuss her findings with you, as well as answer any questions you may have about braces and orthodontic treatment.
  • Orthodontic Records – Once you and Dr. Thompson have decided orthodontics is right for you, we will compile a complete set of Orthodontic Records. These records consist of Orthodontic study models of the patient’s teeth, radiographs, and Orthodontic photographs.
  • Orthodontic Consultation – At the consultation Dr. Thompson will sit down with you and discuss your personalized treatment plan. This is done after a thorough review of your Orthodontic records and examination notes. At any time during your care here, we will be happy to answer any questions you may have about treatment or payments.
  • Orthodontic Banding – At this appointment you will have your braces placed onto your teeth.
  • Full Orthodontic Treatment – Once you have your braces on, you will come in approximately every 4 to 6 weeks. At each appointment Dr. Thompson will evaluate your progress and adjust your braces or wires to have the best results possible for you.
  • Orthodontic Retainers – Each patient receives customized retainers to help keep their teeth from moving once braces have been removed.
  • Orthodontic Retention – The retention phase consists of periodic check-ups after your braces have been removed to ensure your teeth stay straight.
